My sweetie has a massive blues, r&b and jazz collection - like 10 or 12 versions of every song contrasting and comparing various artist interpretations of noteworthy songs, from 30s on up. Needless to say he is hard to shop for. I heard an interview on NPR one day refering to this CD and a companion book and figured it might make a good xmas present. He was pleased to find many gems on the cd that he in fact DID NOT HAVE! WOOHOO! Nailed it....went right into his reference collection. Plus he enjoyed the book, not that he thougt it was written well, rather being a disjointed collection of anecdotes sort of shoved into it whether actually pertaining to the main point. However, he found a lot of information in the anectodes that he was unaware of, concerning major figures in the industry and artists back then, so he was well pleased.
