A very good variety of dogs that gives spot-on info about size, needs, tempermant and best companion for your life-style.Our old "stand-by" book is long out of print and we had high hopes for this "best dog for you" style book. Was disappointed that the book's format actually created some confusion by "forcing" certain breeds into certain categories even though the tables at the back of the book indicated more flexibility.I got this for my brother to read after he got surgery since he has been wanting a dog for a while but put it off until he fully recovered. There were some complications with the surgery so he was in the ICU longer than expected. It helped keep my mom and I busy while we waited. Cute photos and tons of interesting info about each breed!This is a good coffee table book if you're thinking about getting a dog. It overviews various breeds with temperament traits & so on. It has great pictures that give you a good idea of what the dog will look like. It's organized by types of people instead of types of dogs. If you're a couch potato, you can look up what kinds of dogs might fit with your lifestyle. I would not use this book as your primary resource for choosing a breed of dog, but it is a good supplemental.The Dog Selector helped me decide what breed to adopt/rescue by matching my lifestyle and preferences with those of breeds with similar requirements. Personality traits, exercise requirements, grooming needs, etc., helped me narrow my choice to two breeds.The book is beautifully shot with dog photos that make you want one of each breed!It helped me verify my original choice of dog and turns out it was the right choice for me!My granddaughter loved this book. She uses it for research and fun reading. She's 8 and would love to get a dog.If you trust this book it will not steer you wrong. No replay value though. Simply figure out what type of person you are, what type of dog you need and turn to the page. There will be a list of ten dogs that suit your needs. Cant go wrong here.I found this book on the general Amazon search and it was the best of three books that I chose.The book was easy to use and each chapter had headings to help narrow down your choice eg best mixer, anti shedding etc.I didnt realise is was a book from America, but it had a dog (coton de tulear) that I didnt find in any other book, which I have now bought as the detail was so good about the dogs/ puppies characteristics.I would recommend this book to the novice wanting a good over view to help choose the right puppy for you.Really useful book when choosing a puppy.good bookI bought this book as a gift for my brother who is wanting a dog. It's a great book with almost all of the most common breeds included. The layout is nice, where you can search for a dog breed by lifestyle, exercise needs etc. instead of having to read profiles of each dog to see if they are a good match for you. The breed summaries are clear and concise.Nice book
