A masterfully written book. Brockway draws upon a lifetime of study to reckon with fundamental topics of economics and provides new and unusual insights. He writes simply and concisely and begins by keeping a strict definition of economics as involving money exchange i.e. a house wife's work is not party to economics unless paid in cash. He writes with ease about money and prices, labor and capital, production and consumption, the role of credit in ordinary life, international trade, etc. He finds paradoxes and refutes conventional wisdom or ideas usually taken as patently true, such as that high interest rates lower inflation (he claims not). A young man could not have written this book; it is worth a second or third reading.
