DESCRIPTION
While investigating the death of his best friend, customs agent, Cliff Holden becomes entangled in a convoluted web of jewel smuggling and murder. The trail leads to Dutch beauty Kathe van Bourne, who turns to Holden for help when she finds the body of her fiance. C-Man Holden encounters copious corpses, fist-fighting fiends and sleazy seductresses in his quest for the murderer. Producer Rex Carlton is best remembered today for producing and penning horror classics that include The Brain that Wouldn't Die (1962), Blood of Dracula's Castle (1969) and Nightmare in Wax (1969). John Carradine adds another notable performance to his resume as the drunken Dr. Spencer, even if the role is minimal. Star Dean Jagger as Cliff Holden is best remembered for winning an Academy Award for Supporting Actor in Twelve O'Clock High (1949) and for playing the beloved retired General Waverly in White Christmas (1954).

Joseph Lerner, almost a legend, delivers a tightly stylized noir in C-Man that brought him to the attention of Martin Scorsese, who dedicated New York New York to Lerner. This print of C-Man is occasionally dodgy, but that only adds to the low-budgetjoy. Complete with heavy voice-over, NYC locations and a juicy supporting role of John Carradine, C-Man is one of thoseforgotten film noirs that shouldn't be forgotten. Loved every minute!
