Questions For My Father: A Heartfelt Guide to Understanding Your Dad – Perfect for Father's Day, Family Bonding & Meaningful Conversations

I discovered this book when reading Season of Life: A Football Star, a Boy, a Journey to Manhood. After going through a divorce and having the kids move out of the region where I lived, there were even more than the usual challenges to having dad/kid conversations.After reading this book and with that history, I decided last summer to write a book, Answers for My Children, in which I respond to Staniforth's questions and several dozen more I added. The goal is to give them the book on Father's Day this year. His questions are a mixture of anecdotal historical reflections and serious questions. For example, the latter questions include asking what makes a good dad, a good child, a good marriage, when will I know I have met my true love, what does God mean to you, what is success, what's the mark of a good person, what should I do when someone wrongs me?The process of writing the book has brought a stream of unexpected blessings. First, it has brought back a flood of memories. Second, it has allowed me to reconnect to people in my life as I sought more information to answer the questions. Some of them have then decided to do something similar in their families. Third, answering the more serious questions has forced me to further clarify my own thinking about important topics. Fourth, it is stimulating thoughts and interest in finding ways to encourage other dads to be strong and present in their own kids' lives, something that is sorely missing in many families these days.All in all, the book is turning into an emotionally intimate gift to my kids that I hope will fill a gap from our previous years and then be a starting point for many more verbal, in-person discussions moving forward.
