This is a fascinating read which I finished in 1.5 days, as I could not put it down. This book intrigued me on so many levels that I simply had to write a review. The author is an anthropologist, with field experience in Africa. He has presented facts about human nature, based on research not only about sociology and psychology but also primate behavior, since the author contends that they are closest to us in terms of their DNA.The first part of the book hooked me, since it covers the nature of men and women-their biological wiring. The author seemed to be confirming many of the verses of the Qur'an, word by word, without even knowing it himself. He refutes politically correct notions about the two genders being identical. Instead he informs us in detail-using biological facts- how men and women differ greatly. He elaborates on male desires and aspirations, which focus primarily on women in one way or another. But there is more to the book. The author, at the outset, emphatically states that western philosophers such as John Locke, have erroneously spread the notion that nurture tops nature. He categorically states that nature tops nurture. His facts are convincing, however, the one area where the author falls short is his overwhelming focus on primate behavior. Paradoxically, he is a fan of Darwin, and a believer in evolution, when he himself presents facts which refute this claim. He informs us that the matter which gives cells energy is Mitochondria, which is only present in female DNA. He states that research shows that a human couple was the pro-genitor of all men and women, and they lived somewhere between 140,000 to 290,000 years ago.A couple could not have evolved from apes! Even the title of this very story presented on the cover of the National Geographic (1988) magazine, is captioned "The Search for Adam and Eve." Evolution is denied by facts. The story of mankind as covered in Surah Baqarah of the Qur'an, is in line with these findings. Surah Baqarah also informs us our psychological wiring, over and above primate motivations. Primate behavior cannot tell us about mutual competition rooted in envy. Amazingly, many other facts and even opinions which the author expresses, support the politically incorrect injunctions of the Qur'an, such as polygamy, female slaves captured during war, public lashings for rape and the chopping off of fingers for theft. If the author were to study the Qur'an, his understanding of facts would become crystal clear, as no worldly construct can guide as the Divine can guide. Darwin, John Locke and others are no match for God Himself, and His book, the Holy Qur'an.
