The coat itself works really well. It covers the belly and the chest completely, it is waterproof, and it protects from the wind. It has been snowy and about 15 - 20 degrees Farenheit here and the dogs don't seem to be cold in this coat. You put it on/off like a sweater but the material is less flexible and so it is a bit more of a challenge to get it on and off -- My two are laid back about suiting up so we do fine but I think those with a hyper dog will have to do some training and have high-level treats available to get the dog used to the on/off process. My little dogs usually tend to want to pull when walking, but for some reason, in this coat, neither one does. I can't begin to explain what the psychology of that is but I sure do love it.The problem with the coat is the sizing information they provide. I finally figured out why it is off so much. The girth information they provide is actually the width at the end of the coat by the tail rather than the dog's "waist" just behind the legs where one normally takes the girth measurement. I think amongst us all we can probably provide correct information. Here are the actual measurements for the two I bought.14" coat - The actual "waist" girth of the 14" coat is 20" and it's length is 13 1/2. This fits my 14 pound dog.16" coat - The actual "waist" girth of the 16" coat is 22" and it's length is 15 1/2. This fits my 23 pound dog.The coat is made in China. I wipe off the outside with a cloth for cleaning. In considering this coat, think in human terms of "lined windbreaker," not heavy coat or sweater. The coat is lightweight, with a trim fit, so don't expect the bulk of a puffer or the stretch of a sweater. I bought it for the windproof feature, not as protection from super cold temperatures. My dog is 15 lbs with an 18” chest measurement and after reading other reviews, I ordered up a size to the 20" girth. It fits perfectly and I've had no problems putting it on or taking it off. (The Pawz video has some good tips on how to accomplish this.) The built-in leash attachment works well for my dog who isn’t a heavy puller. He seems happy and comfortable wearing it, so no complaints. I was concerned about buying a black coat since my dog has long white hair and is a heavy shedder, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how the outer layer of the coat stays remarkably neat and free of hair. It's a sharp looking piece of canine apparel and appears to be well made using high quality materials. I do agree with others that Pawz needs to re-think their sizing recommendations.Beware the size chart! Based on the measurements on the chart I bought a coat that was too big for my Bichon. I exchanged it for a size Small and it fits nicely. The coat is easy to slip over his head and it has a built-in harness, which I like a lot. I have already put my dog in his new coat a few times (when the weather gets below 30 degrees and when it's raining). When I first got the coat I thought he might not like it but he doesn't seem to notice it at all. The coat is made of a nice waterproof fabric that feels like a ski coat. It's lightweight (thin) but it still keeps my dog warm. The belly is cut high so he can do his 'business' without getting the coat messy. The harness clip is surprisingly strong because it can handle my dog's constant pulling at his leash.I would have given this product a 5-star review but I had to deduct for the misleading size chart. Fortunately the seller (Grooming-Pet Supplies) was quick to exchange the product. Also, now that I have the coat I found it on Amazon by another seller for $6.00 less than I paid. Grrr ....Overall, very pleased with my purchase. This jacket is made more for fall and spring. It’s not warm enough for cold winter months. It will be good on rainy days, however it is not real easy to get on and off. You have to put the dogs head in and then feet through the holes. The zipper o.N the back does not really open far enough to make it ash to take on and off. I am not real happy with the product.I bought a 14 inch long/22 in girth coat for my 19 lbs dachshund. Coat is well made, good quality with the price (I got it for $7.50), there is a fleece like material in the inside, quite soft. Easy to put on, my dog doesn't seem to mind. I measured my dog's girth which is approx. 21inches, this coat fits well, but I cannot zip him up. I haven't really tried to zip him up though, as he is a long hair dachshund and I am afraid the hair will get caught in the zipper. The material seems slightly stretchy, so may be I can do it, but I won't try. Will try it out and see if it is waterproof when it starts snowing and update the comment.I love this coat. I have bought two for my dog. The weight of the coat is not too heavy or bulky and lays nicely. The outer shell keeps him dry and the inner shell is fleece and keeps him warm. I love that I can clip the leash right on his jacket and go which was the main selling point for me. It is just a little tricky to get on but once you get the hang of it it's not too time consuming. I've read some reviews that the sizing is off. I have a small dog about 18 lbs. He is a mixed breed but I would say it is about the size of an average cocker spaniel I went with the 16 in and it is a little roomie but I had the 14 inch and although that one fit perfect it was a little tricky to put on so I got a bigger size to help with that.Agreeing with other reviews, the most annoying feature of this jacket is having to pull it on over your dog since there is no zipper or velcro to put it on. That being said, the material is pretty nice, lightweight but thick fleece. I actually had to return this jacket because my dog would fit better in the 18 inch coat. I have a black lab / border collie / pit mix thats almost 1. He basically looks like a forever puppy mini lab tat is lean and skinny. He is 22" tall, about 14" around the neck, 25-26" girth (chest), and 23" from the base of his neck to his tail. The 16" 25" inch girth i thought would be great, and it actually fit him pretty well, but it was a little snug around his chest and it was really tight around his front legs through the leg holes, which is why i returned it and plan on getting the 18" jacket.EXCELLENT QUALITY COAT BUT THE CUT LEAVES SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED. I HAVE 2 BICHON BOLOGNESE DOGS (VERY SIMILAR TO PICTURE) FOR WHICH THE MEDIUM SIZE IS JUST ABOUT LONG ENOUGH, BUT FAR TOO BIG IN THE GIRTH. ALTHOUGH THE FIT CAN BE ADJUSTED VIA BUILT-IN STRAPS WHICH NEED TO BE PULLED TO TIGHTEN,IT DOES NOT PROVIDE A CLOSE FIT. A SMALLER SIZE WOULD BE TOO SHORT, HOWEVER.THE COAT IS SLIGHTLY AWKWARD TO PUT ON AND REMOVE, BUT THE PROTECTION FROM RAIN IS EXCELLENT - EVEN UNDERNEATH. THE HARNESS IS A DEFINITE WINNER.OVERALL A VERY FINE GARMENT, SOMEWHAT LET DOWN BY THE CUT.WARNING ABOUT THIS COAT: There is an issue with the material loop that comes out of the back to attach your lead. I bought two of these coats for my 4 month old cavachon puppies and one of the loops was over half way frayed through within a month and the second coat loop was starting to fray also. If I hadn't noticed, I think the loop would have broken within the next few walks, allowing my pups to escape. I sent both coats back and got a refund without any problem. It's a shame because in all other respects, this is a lovely coat and seems well made, soft and comfortable. But frailty of the lead loop makes this coat too dangerous as even a small dog could break free. This was the third dog coat and harness I tried and returned due to quality issues. In the end I went for the Puppia Mountaineer coat with inbuilt harness: quite expensive but the quality is superb and perfect for the cold months. You really do get what you pay for. Please read if your dog has legs less than 1 foot long. The coat only has a small zip along the neck line on the back up to the metal ring. You have to pull it on over your dogs head and then pull their legs through the holes. After 2 weeks the neoprene material has stretched because of the awkward way it has be put on your dog.The result is that the coat hangs down so much underneath that it gets wet inside and out, so my dog might as well be wearing a normal coat that is easier to put on. The other fault is that his paws keep coming out the holes so I have to take the coat off mid walk.My conclusion that it is useless.THIS ITEM IS SHIPPED FROM AMERICA SO IF YOU WANT TO RETURN IT THE COST IS SO EXPENSIVE THAT IT'S NOT WORTH THE POSTAGE COST TO RETURN IT.I bought 3 of them, different sizes and they are all about 1-2 inches shorter then they shoud be,to cover the dog back right to the tail. Easy to put on and take off, keep the dog warm and dry in light rain ( in heavy rain only when they are new, before the first wash),for about 20-30 mins walk but that's it, the belly area tend to soak in water especially if your dog is small and walks on wet grass. Actually, the waterproofing treatment last until first wash. I gave 4 stars because they are much better then other dog coats rated 3 stars.Perfect for my pup no pulling on the lead.Quality second to none first class.A bit fiddly to get on at first this got easier the more I used it.My pup has nearly grown out of it ,I will not hesitate in using Protex Paws again for bigger size.Cant say much more than perfect as far as the coat and an excellent for the well packaged and speedy delivery. Will definitely use again.
