This well-told tale grabs you right from the outset with the apparent assassination of Jack Reacher. While the premise is fairly transparent and obviously a set up (after all, what would all of Jack's fans think if he got killed off at the beginning of a new story?), Ames keep things engaging. believable and moving along quickly. Lauren Pauling is immediately drawn in as is her sometimes-working-partner, Michale Tallon. But who is drawing them in and why? Whoever it is, they know much about both Pauling and Tallon, enough to tax both of these experienced warriors to their limits.Ames is doing a great job of developing Lauren Pauling. We see more and more of what makes her tick, Tallon as well. Thier backstories stitch the tale together while Dan Ames's plot development is nothing short of astonishing for such a short read.If you love Jack Reacher, you're guaranteed to love this book as well!
