Product Description Average teenager Peter Parker is transformed into an extraordinary super hero after he is accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider. When his beloved uncle is savagely murdered during a robbery, young Peter vows to use his powers to avenge his death. Deeming himself "Spider-Man", he sets about ridding the streets of crime, bringing him into conflict with malevolent super-villain "Green Goblin." Set Contains: Released alongside a Superbit edition to coincide with the theatrical release of Spider-Man 2, the three-disc deluxe edition of Spider-Man combines the original two-disc widescreen edition in a box with a new disc of special features in its own keepcase. The main selling point of the third disc is presumably the "sneak peek" at Spider-Man 2, but it's just a five-minute compilation of trailer footage and interviews. The sequel's ubiquitous trailer is also included. There are 30 minutes of previously unseen featurettes, which are all decent, but somewhat overkill when tacked onto the excellent original set's two commentary tracks, pop-up factoids and featurettes, and second disc of features. The most entertaining aspect of the new third disc might be the demo of the upcoming Activision video game, which introduces the game's controls and look and feel. If you never picked up the original two-disc release of Spider-Man, you might enjoy the three-disc deluxe edition, which has all the same features plus a few new ones. If you do have the original, however, there's no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, Spidey-philes might seriously consider the Superbit version, which offers a sharper, more brilliant picture, a DTS soundtrack, and a brand-new commentary track by Tobey Maguire and J.K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson). --David Horiuchi
