I was initially less than enthusiastic about this movie, which was apparently a pilot for a Canadian television series. Supposedly prisoner 984, aka Tom Weston, has been imprisoned for crimes against the government. The film alternates between the "present" time, which is some point in the future, and the past, where we see various events from Tom Weston's past. The general approach is to keep the audience in the dark about the motivations of the Warden and what is happening in the world. There are tantalizing hints, such as the robots and the sounds of life outside the prison, but we are left to puzzle as to the meaning of the hints. The movie has a couple of problems. While the 1960's television show had enough action to keep the audience interested, this movie has a slow pace that makes it difficult to focus on the attention. The other problem relates to the pacing. By the time the movie plodded to the end, I had a strong suspicion as to the general nature of the back story and how the movie might end. I was not precisely correct, but close. This movie also has some strong points. If you enjoyed the paranoia and surreal atmosphere of "The Prisoner," then this movie may appeal to you. Just consider that there is little action and the primary appeal in this movie seems to be the atmosphere. If you have never seen this type of movie, and you appreciate science fiction, you may find the plot appealing and enlightening. The movie does take itself seriously, and there is little amusing about this paranoid vision of the future. The sound quality of this movie is acceptable. The quality of the video is fair, and could use cleanup. The imagery is well short of HD quality.I am reluctant to recommend this movie because of the slow pacing, and the general subject matter, that a government is controlling and out to get you, is likely to have limited appeal. On the other hand, if you like movies with a lot of vagueness that are slow to develop, with a touch of surrealism, and you believe that the government is evil and out to get you, then you might find this movie worth a watch.Good luck!
