DESCRIPTION
Content in this book was banned from a college classroom that studied "The Vagina Monologues." After reading Eve Ensler's book and attending a local production of her play, author Joe DiBuduo wanted to respond with his distinctly creative, male point of view. DiBuduo planned to write a play or screenplay titled "The Penis Chronicles." After handing out a questionnaire to a multitude of people who said they would participate, Joe received only one response. "The Penis Chronicles" couldn't be written with only his and another man's thoughts. Realizing how reticent most men and even his college instructor were to talk about penises, DiBuduo felt obligated to research and share his narrative about the male appendage. He ended up with one monologue - "A Penis Manologue." For more information, see http://www.apenismanologue.com

I'm a straight male who is very interested in gender studies. I was inspired by reading The Vagina Monologues and seeing them performed. My reason for purchasing this book stemmed from the fact that I believe men need to have the same familiarity with and acceptance of their bodies in the same way the Vagina Monologues encourages for women. Unfortunately, this book does not compare, and is not a meaningful response to The Vagina Monologues by any stretch of the imagination. The main annoyance is the use of a different slang term for the penis in nearly every paragraph. It's not funny - it's ridiculous and nauseating. The only redeeming aspects of this book are some interesting facts about the role of penises in various cultures around the world. However, the facts are never treated in much depth in the extremely short chapters. The book's rather skinny bibliography consists mostly of websites, many of them quite dubious (such as Wikipedia).Unfortunately, this is one of the trashiest books I have ever purchased.
