Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original Mega Man X title that first appeared on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game builds upon the original with new renderings of 3D character models, new environments and gameplay features that raise the bar for side-scrolling platformers. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X also includes an animated movie that provides real insight into the Mega Man X universe and even gives gamers a sneak peek at events that took place before the plot line of the first game. Plus to ensure that even the most veteran of gamers is given a real challenge, the level arrangements have been modified with item locations, map layouts and the strategies needed for completing levels all updated. The year is 21XX. A mysterious robot named X has become the model from which further Reploids were created to aid mankind. Unfortunately, some of the Reploids turned against the humans and were given the name Mavericks. In response to this, the Maverick Hunters, an elite squad of Reploids, were formed to combat these renegade Reploids and calm was restored until one of the Maverick Hunters, a powerful Reploid named Sigma, turned against the peacekeepers. Now X and his fellow Maverick Hunter friend, Zero, must prevent Sigma from executing his evil plans to destroy humanity.
Upon completion of the main game, a whole new story is unlocked where players can play as Vile, X's arch rival
Maverick Hunter X is a 2005 PSP remake of the classic "Mega Man X", released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or SNES) in 1994. The game was meant to be a reboot of the Mega Man X series, but due to poor sales, this never came to fruition.Beat for beat, Maverick Hunter X is a complete remake of the original SNES game, with graphics updated to better resemble Megaman X8 (the most recent game in the series at the time), a superior story and high quality voice acting. To keep things fresh, some aspects of the game were changed to provide returning players with a new experience, such as reworked item locations, redesigned levels and improved enemy A.I, while some changes were made to appeal to newer players, such as improved difficulty balancing for bosses. Not all changes were for the better however. Returning players will be suprised to learn that charging your X-Buster takes longer than in any other X series game, and with some weapons like the Fire Wave, this actively puts you at a disadvantage. Wall jumping is also affected, as dash jumping off walls was made harder to do in Maverick Hunter X. Furthermore, unlike Maverick Hunter X's sibling game "Megaman Powered Up", Maverick Hunter X suffers from minor slowdown in some hectic or crowded areas.Still, none of these changes make the game not a blast to play. The game's superior presentation and storytelling to the SNES original more than makes up for any of the game's shortcomings, and unlike the original, there is plenty of replay value in the game's unlockable Hard Mode and (avoiding spoilers) a completely new unlockable campaign starring a familiar character.I give Maverick Hunter X 5/5 stars. It's a very inexpensive must own title for PSP users, and stands as a faithful remake of a classic game.I've played the Megaman X, and liked it. This on the other hand, I found extremely frustrating, due to a series of rather unwelcome changes (and some things they should have changed with the PSP in mind). PSP is best suited for (wait not active) RPGs, puzzle, and strategy games, not plaformers. And there's a reason. If you're in a car on the thing, and you hit a bump, there goes your game. Birth by Sleep works, but just barely. It gets easier too, as you build your abilities like leaf bracer and such. But Maverick Hunter X? Not really.Example, all the upgrade areas have been changed. So instead of finishing off Chill Penguin and having the boots all ready, oh I'm sorry, you need to goto Flame Mammoth (and because he's difficult to beat you have to ditch that stage and go back). They changed the AI of certain bosses, and made the areas generally harder, or in some cases it's about as hard, but because you're playing on a PSP, you'd expect things to be relaxed a little. In order to beat Flame Mammoth, I of course needed Storm Ostrich to give his powers, but the platforms moving at full speed with PSP's finicky controls meant I had to take it extremely slow and it was twice as hard. So, then there's thing #2 they should have changed but didn't, random screen-out respawns. I'm carefully jumping from moving platform to platform with these flamethrowing robots which routinely knock me off (AI has unfortunately been improved, so instead of attacking at intervals as I think I remember, they time it to when they cross me, not to mention range is better too) and defeat them. I jump to a new platform and... every now and then the critter I just defeated is standing on the plaform, I can't jump, and takes three hits to kill. I die horribly, a few feet from the end of the platforms. This was happening to me on Normal Mode. I chucked the game in the trash and wiped my game files. This game is everything I thought it would be! The story is great and almost the same as Megaman X for the Super Nintendo. I also like how there are a couple unlock able features such as getting to play as Vile after beating the game.(I just wish that they made Vile a bit easier to play as.) You can also unlock a short anime movie called The Day of Z. It is basically about how the maverick hunters became mavericks. Overall this game has been tremendous fun and a great way to spend my time whenever I get bored!:) I hope that Capcom could make another game that continues the series, such as a Megaman Maverick Hunter X 2. I would also ask them to include more unlock able features and maybe something interesting that the Megaman X franchise has never seen! Was wrapped very carefully and came earlier than expected. Was also in great shape.Megaman Powered Up too hard for you? Maybe you should of picked up Maverick Hunter X instead. The game carries the same difficulty the SNES version had, but with beautiful redone graphics. The game has a sharp edge feel to it and the extra character you can play with keeps the replay value a little higher than it should, although it cant compare to the features of Powered Up. The armaments you pick up are scattered through the levels differently this time around and is actually easier to get to when compared to the old version. All in all, great game, fantastic price. If you do not get this game, you are a part of the problem.Works perfectly.Even as a kid back in the late 80's and early 90's I grew up playing playing Mega Man on the original Nes. When The X series was introduced in 93 on the SNES, I was amazed how much the graphics have changed. Lol anyways this PSP verison of Mega Man X was enjoyable. Voice overs were not bad, gameplay pretty much the same. Liked that you could actually play as Vile. Too bad not Zero though! Overall game is a must buy for those of you who are Fans of the Series. Wish they had a Maverick Hunter X sequel though.... who knows might be released for the PSP Vita...I love this game, I had it on the SNES, and while it's close, it's not quite perfect. Still worth the money if you like the series, but it will never be as good as the SNES version.NiceHave you ever wanted to play as the antagonist? Now you can! Play as Vile and learn a new weapon system while seeing the story through the eyes of the bad guy!Super goodFantastic game, great delivery time.
