Another Secret Wars tie-in that basically serves as a pilot volume for an on going series. Bendis returns to the dystopian future that Mark Millar created wherein the villains united to wipe out all the heroes leaving a lawless Western themed world wherein Logan tries his best to live peacefully until the death of his family draws him back into the hero game. The actual story here is decent; Bendis picks up right where the final Old Man Logan story from Millar left off with Logan having adopted a Hulk baby as his own. The book serves a slight tie in to the main Secret Wars story as Old Man Logan begins to realize that something is off about Battleworld. He sets out to solve the mystery and ends up traversing through multiple Warzones (the Technopolis of the Armor Wars tie-ins, the Age of Apocalypse world, the Deadlands of Marvel Zombies, and eventually the Manhattan remnants of the main 616 and Ultimate Universes) while running from the Thors who seek to ensure no one crosses the borders. As he travels Logan realizes that each warzone contains variants of the people he once knew and loved and winds up joining the battle against Doom because of it. Bendis' work certainly set the table for the on going Old Man Logan sequel series by Jeff Lemire (as Logan is one of the few multiverse remnants who winds up in the post Secret Wars Marvel universe along with Miles Morales), but the real star is Andrea Sorrentino's fantastic artwork. It is brutal and stylish and I'm glad she was tapped to keep drawing for the series after Lemire took over writing duties. However you feel about Marvel bringing Old Man Logan into the main continuity (I think it was a cheap ploy that undercut the loss of Wolverine right after his death) this is a fun read at the least for seeing a fun Battleworld-crossing adventure.
