DESCRIPTION
The idea to write to you was not an easy one. The scar from where the bullet entered my back is still there. Jerry McGill was thirteen years old, walking home through the projects of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, when he was shot in the back by a stranger. Jerry survived, wheelchair-bound for life; his assailant was never caught. Thirty years later, Jerry wants to say something to the man who shot him. I have decided to give you a name. I am going to call you Marcus. With profound grace, brutal honesty, and devastating humor, Jerry McGill takes us on a dramatic and inspiring journey—from the streets of 1980s New York, where poverty and violence were part of growing up, to the challenges of living with a disability and learning to help and inspire others, to the long, difficult road to acceptance, forgiveness, and, ultimately, triumph. I didn’t write this book for you, Marcus. I wrote this for those who endure. Those who manage. Those who are determined to move on.

A Must Read~ a celebration to life. I knew Jerome from french class at IS70. I was in the attic going thru papers andfound notes from the hospital and a letter to my mother from the " steely" french teacher Mrs. Bahn.Just this past week I got a call from the spanish teacher~ my 14 yr old was being very disruptive in her class.Jerome would bring the entire class into roars of laughter. His Spirit was an still is in brilliant technicolor!!Mrs. Bahn was nothing but unaccepting/ judgemental being asI do remember from my youth ~ she said the meanest things.I remember the before an after of her. After that horrific reality hit us all, the world just seemed too quiet without Jerome in class. I neversaw or spoke to him again. But last week I found these papers in the attic~ and started to search for himon the web ~ discovering thisJerome/Jerry wrote a book.Could not put it down. A book of cleansing, a book of gratitude, a book of horrific reality that onlybecome Jerry's metamorphosis. In reading , I was reminded that we both attended Elliott Feld Ballet school, I grew up and lived on 8in Westbeth an just ran into Dean acouple Months ago. Zuri was my best friend growing up~ may she rest in peace.Jerry's writting is free flowing as if I was a fly inside his brain , listening to his thoughts. The Honestyis raw and absolutely awesome. I am one of those folks that is all about speaking the truth and amvery aware that it's a rare breed that actually revels in it. Like clean water. His truth is empowering, enlightening and the thing I came away from reading this bookis that Self Loathing is the quick sand to the soul. It will devour you alive.Jerry brings to lightthe very power of howa successful person can not afford the luxury of the blame and the victim cardsin the game of life . I am so happy to have found you Jerry. Society needs to step up it's gameand with more people like Jerry ~ we could move mountains together. This Book is the Beginning to a dialogue that needs to occur on the floors of congress,to get the changes made. Thanks for your Action in your personal life and like you said Jerry~ it makes us able to extend our hand outto help one another.Peace an LoveMy lovely Brother.Caitlin Bottoms
