DESCRIPTION
It's every gay man's fantasy- sleeping with their straight best friend. Lucky for Lewis that's precisely what's about to happen. When, after a night of heavy drinking at a bachelor party, Cooper and Lewis end up in bed together, the two men decide to meet in the same hotel suite on the same night each year. We see four nights, spanning a twelve year period depicting how their relation- ship changes as time goes on. THE LAST STRAIGHT MAN is like a sexier, hotter and, well, gayer version of the BEFORE SUNRISE series.

Quick caution for family and friends who may consider this film: IMO it’s R rated. Two very brief scenes have frontal nudity, but nothing pornographic. Friends I went into this movie based on a handful of reviews written by people just like us. No one said anything about the plot, except that it had a surprise ending. Most of the reviewers gave it 5 stars out of 5. Now for the interesting part(s). For the first hour I thought I was watching a gay soft porn movie (albeit, with a story line). To make matters worse, the whole film takes place in a hotel room, except for the last 10 minutes. Not since, Counsellor At Law (1933) have I seen a director do this, and for GOOD reasons; it’s claustrophobic! By the way Counsellor At Law, doesn’t play a stitch of music at all- yet, it’s a great movie. The Last Straight Man, uses what we’ve coined “elevator music” or maybe” chic restaurant music”. Soothing ear candy that doesn’t compete with the dialogue. (The bulk of the film is branded on psychological dialogue. The dialogue challenges us to experience a new generation; and a thoughtful one. There’s a line in the movie that says, “it’s a cross between Dr. Ruth and Sigmund Fraud.” Perfect for summing up the dialogue. Like the handful of reviewers said, the ending is unexpectedly different. I could say a lot more but no spoilers. 5/5
