Father John: A True Man of God - Inspirational Priest for Daily Devotion & Spiritual Guidance

I have not read the whole book, but I have read significant portions of it. There are things about this book that I both like and find disagreeable. Firstly, I love the fact that the author treats the priesthood as a real calling that should be responded to in a disciplined way. He explains that priests should treat their vocations seriously as a life united to Christ at every moment. This means that this vocation demands something of the man that a secular vocation does not. It also gives helpful tips on the mindset a priest should have in his ministry.On the other hand, I thought the author could be sometimes "too intense" and suggested some things that I would hope a reasonable priest would not do. For example, there was a section where he suggested that the priest in the confessional should gasp and sigh at the sins of the penitent in order to increase his/her compunction. I also felt that at times, the author did not fully appreciate the humanity of men in the priesthood. Sometimes, I felt like he expected them to be angels without any weakness.Overall, its a good book that has some good insights and advice. Just be careful
