I have a Ryobi string trimmer that I believe was manufactured in 2009, the past year or so its performance as well as ease of starting has gone down. I knew that the fix for this issue was to adjust the carburetor mixture settings but thanks to California emission controls that the whole industry has adopted for small engines they made the mixture screws without any screwdriver slots. Real smart! I thought to myself. So I when I could not get my string trimmer to accelerate from idle without stalling out I got angry and began doing some Google searches and found several references to special tools that were available to adjust the mixture settings. I found this tool here on Amazon as well as on Ebay and the shipping here was better because of having Amazon Prime. I arrived Friday May 17th and I played around with adjusting the low and high mixture settings on my string trimmer for about 10 to 15 minutes and now the trimmer is running like new. Starts on the 3rd or 4th pull when cold after priming and now start on the first pull after it has been run and is at normal operating temp. The 25 dollars I spent getting this tool was far better than spending 150 to 200 dollars for a new trimmer. I would recommend anyone getting one of these tools so that they can continue using what may be an unserviceable unit. Just make sure you get the correct adjustment tool for your model trimmer. Some use this tool but others have one flat and some have two flats that this tool will not work with, however I did find these on Amazon as well. Just find out what tool will work with your model before making a purchase.
