Very well written. Be prepared to read for a while - hard to put this one down. This book was a joy to read. Tammy was quite the character and the queen of country music! I thoroughly enjoyed her detailed description of childhood, marriages and career. I think she should just as popular now is when she really hit the big-time all those years ago. The books written by her daughters were very good as well. So glad I was able to read this!Being a huge Tammy Wynette fan, I enjoyed her perspective, especially, of her time with George Jones. I'd read his book previously, and there seems to be some differences in the two stories. Though coming from humble beginnings and having a tough time trying to bring up 3 little girls by herself much of the time, she had great support from family that helped her. Her health issues, unfortunately, followed her all of her life and lead to a rather premature death, though this isn't addressed in this book as this book is autobiographical. This was an interesting read on a great country singer.Ok, by now you must know I am a huge Tammy Wynette fan, and this is one of the reason's why I am, her story sealed the deal for me..Although Tammy endured many heartaches, she had a sense of humor like nobody I have ever read about..Alot of the stories of her life will have you rollin on the floor in laughter. Although she was married several times, she definately leaves you with the feeling that her one and only true love was for George Jones, she even states in the last chapter of her book George Jones will forever be her favorite Country Music Singer of all time...just a little footnote Tammy Wynette was married to George Richey at the time she wrote this book!I am giving Tammy a free pass on this review. In reality, "Stand By Your Man" is a highly "sanitized" version of what must have been a fascinating life. "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" should be her signature song but again, I'll give Tammy a pass. The reader will have to give credit where credit is due. This woman fought her way up from poverty in Mississippi,a loser of a first husband, took herself and her babies to Nashville, made herself a star and kept herself a star despite unhappy marriages (5?) and all sorts of health problems, which received less publicity than her marital woes. (Did George Jones really drive his lawn mower into town that night to get more booze? That was after Tammy hid all his car keys!) Maybe Tammy, after all she went through, is entitled to one little sanitized autobiography. The book is in tack. But pages yellow and also have a little smell to them. This was not mentioned in description of the item.I liked this book very much. If you are into bios or memoirs especially of tragic country music stars you will like it too.About 1/4 of the way through and am enjoying it very much. We love her singing and was sad when she died. This copy is so grubby that I have not read it and probably will not do so. Although the price was only 1 penny, it was not worth the mailing cost and should have been dumped years ago.
